IMPORTANT NOTE

Bryophytes are no longer considered a category, so that Liverworts and Mosses are no longer treated as Classes of a single taxonomic group, but as separate groups (Divisions), with the term "bryophyte" referring to commonalities of structure and life cycle rather than evolutionary origin.

There has been no systematic recording of the bryophytes of Sutton Park since the death of the noted bryologist J.H. Field, whose records date to before 1990, although A.V. Smith did some work in 1992.
